Don't worry lovejoy, we don't expect simps like you to understand. We also couldn't give a shit if you don't like it either.

I'll tell you a good "when I was in the army story".... when I was in Afghanistan in 2011/12, the good people of WHO (along with others) managed to help me raise thousands for wounded soldiers.

2.45pm - A big cheer for LCpl Marc Holden, who has completed a 3,456-mile cycle on his exercise bike - the equivalent of cycling from Camp Bastion in Afghanistan back to the Boleyn Ground. LCpl Holden is here today, having completed a six-month tour of duty in Helmand Province. He is raising funds for the Care for Casualties charity, which aids wounded soldiers. Not sure what you're talking about Lovejoy, in my day your sort of conci talk would have met keel hauling five days with out rum, bum or bacci

Seems like it’s best not to argue with ex military over parking spaces where you live.

A MATE of mine was in The Royal Standbacks. The only bit of action he ever saw was in the NAAFI queue

Re: Working with ex-military.
Ex Military, went from TA to Regular which I think gave me the best of both worlds
I am in a ex Military MC (VMC) in Australia and we pretty much stay to ourselves, I personally found Army, Navy are ok but Air Force are a different breed.
I recommend the armed forces at all opportunities, I grew up in a shitty East London estate with a broken home in the late 70's/80's. The only escape was military as no fucker would employ you.
If you are in a place you don't like with no prospects join the armed forces. I hear people tell me 'I don't want to be away from my friends' 'I don't like discipline'
Well soft cock get on with your life, I found the army (Infantry) to be an equal opportunity employer. If you are a cunt you sunk and sunk quickly. If you tried you got somewhere.
Its hard, people will shout at you and you will be uncomfortable and bored at times.
Suck it up and you can get to a better place
If you are happy where you are great but people who have no prospects and say they aren't given opportunities I say get fucked

Ex serviceman
Biggest problem I've had is that they are institutionalized to do as told, exactly
Hard working, loyal and reliable but utterly without initiative, can't tell them to go from A to D, have to stipulate A - B - C - D and if anything unforeseen occurs that renders the instruction void, they will plough on regardless, unless you tell them otherwise at the time
Those I know who were marines or SF are entirely different gravy
Respect is due to all mind so a little understanding is warranted

I'm MATES with a few Belgian ex foreign legion soldiers.

They're a completely different breed compared to your average ex-military soldiers.

Re: Working with ex-military.
Northern, I can only go on what I personally know, and most TA guys will bore you stupid with tales of their meaningless military maneuvers, as they never saw action.
While my good friend's brother was in the TA and placed in Iraq, and came back with a different opinion of his masters realising the betrayal of all soldiers like many of the other ex-squadies I met and it went into overdrive when he realised the story of the Russian poisoning wasn't possible without wiping out the village, as that was his expertise.
So not all TA guys are wankers who only play act at weekends, some retain their souls.

All of my meetings involving ex WWI and WWII vets was imparted to me before the internet existed for the public.

Still we now get to see first hand the results of WWI and WWII with this wonderful corporate communist takeover of the West today!

I have MATES ex Military... I've got MATES who have got kids in the forces... I know veterans from the Falklands... Northern Ireland... Iraq & 'Stan... my neice is dating an ex Marine (2 tours of Afghanistan) ... My Grandads served in WW2.. My Gt Unc was a para and then served with SAS in Malaya in the 50's... I'll gladly have a chat about their exploits if they want/wanted to chat ... much rather that than some Walter Mitty cunt like my Sister is dating reckoning he told Ant from Who dares Wins all he knows and that he was not as good a soldier as he was... that and spunging from my sister for the past 4 years as app' the job he had he had to give up due to his PTSD of when he was captured... tortured by the Taliban and then rescued by the SAS.... funny thing is my neice (Sisters daughter) is now daying this guy who is ex' Marines andold Walter has gone into hiding... does not want to meet him as it might start off his PTSD... What a Walter

Re: Working with ex-military.
Mate of mine was in the army for 9 years and never fired a shot in anger. Depending on your point of view he signed up at the wrong/right time.

Balkans had just about ended. NI peace process had started and the world was a pretty peaceful place.

Spent his time driving a Rupert around in Serbia, crashing land rovers in Maidstone or in strip clubs in Canada.

Doesn’t mention it much as I’m guessing nothing much happened.

Re: Working with ex-military.
I worked and associated in some places with ex squaddies, most of them psychos and some of them worrying close to being considered terrorists nowadays in that they were true patriots who loved the country and resented the betrayal by the state and when I was younger used to help out a bit at an old folks home housing WWI and WWII veterans who had a similar outlook.

The old folks home was where I first learnt of how everything we all were told about the wars was a big lie and everything they warned about it leading to communism running rampant unchecked post-war and directing our futures has come to pass, with a tickly cough, weirdly enough, being the catalyst used for the final push.

I used to think it all insane conspiarcy nonsense until I read up, researched and met a few war heros from both sides of the conflict to realise over the decades it was depressingly a self-evident fact.

It's only the one's who were in the Territorial Army that bore you with every incident in the workplace being relatable to their boring military maneuvers on the Isle of wight or wherever it is they let them pretend to be soldiers for the weekend

Don't forget there are bods in the forces that have never seen conflict and have used their time to attain excellent training and qualifications to prepare them for civvy street.
